Step into confidence. Try it on, and notice how good it feels.

Did you know that confidence is one of the main things people see a hypnotist for? Yes, it’s true. I saw three clients this week for confidence. 

Years back, when I had my in-person office, I saw a lot of kids for confidence and they were so easy to work with. They could build up confidence fast. They were playful so you could pull in imagery that allowed them to be confident.

As adults, we are more complicated.

We have internal dialogue, beliefs, fears, and anxieties that get us stuck. 

How do we become more confident? 

First, we have to define it. 

My definition of confidence is “a way of building up the ability to be more sure of yourself.”

What words represent confidence to you?

Most kids think it means being brave, but for adults, it’s the combination of a lot of words; self-assured, strong, control, expression, and being yourself. 

How do you become more sure of yourself when in the back of your head, you’re telling yourself you’re not?

You build it up. 

If you’re a bodybuilder, you gain muscle strength through repetition.

If you’re a contractor, you learn how to get good at it by building house after house.

if you’re a hairdresser, you work on a lot of hair!

Confidence is built by repetition, the more you do it, the stronger it gets. 

Let’s play… Put on your Jacket of Confidence.

Confidence is like putting on a really cool jacket. One that matches the confidence we want to feel. 

Play with this and imagine and “put on” your jacket of confidence. 

What does this jacket look like?

How does this jacket feel when you wear it? 

Everybody’s jacket is different. One could be leather, and somebody else could have a nice sweater that’s comfortable.

Another jacket could be more like armor.

Or, maybe you like something funky!

What does your jacket of confidence look like?

This is all about you, so be real!

Use your imagination, then when you put that jacket on, you can embrace that energy of confidence.  

Let yourself feel how you want to feel when you’re confident. 

Let that feeling build up as it becomes an expression of you.

Stand up!

Now, don’t forget to stand up taller, you know, put your head up, chest out and if you really wanna have fun, then stand your ass up and get into the confident Superman/Superwomen pose.

You know what that is, right?

When you stand with your legs apart, head up, and hands on your hips.

Allow that energy to sink in. Let it move into every space in your body as you feel yourself becoming more confident and more sure of yourself.

You can take on the world!!

You need to play!

I like to play when it comes to being confident. People just take it too seriously.

One of the best ways is to have fun and to do so with a sense of a sense of excitement. This is why kids build up confidence fast because they are curious and they play. 

 When you play, you increase all these wonderful chemicals in your body which makes you feel great. 

Even if you’re faking it, you’re still bringing energy. 

It’s no different than when you wanna be happy, you have to smile. Your brain believes what you do.

On a side note. My visualize of confidence is Ripley in the Aliens movie.

It’s the scene when Ripley is going to get Newt. She’s riding the elevator down, getting her equipment together.

She puts her “jacket” on and stands there, ready with a weapon in hand.   As she gets to the bottom floor, the elevator door opens and she is ready to fight.

In that image, she is confident as hell.

But you know she’s also terrified. 

Confidence is what helps you to push through the fear.

Even the most confident people can still be nervous, they can still be worried, but they push through because they allow the confidence to be bigger than what they’re fighting.

It’s what gives them the edge. 

 All right, well, you go out with your bad self!

Get that jacket on, get into that Superman pose, and don’t take things so seriously.

Remember, you have a powerful mind and it can be changed to support the life you want to live.

In the meantime, enjoy your day, one minute at a time.
